Since our first attempt to go up in the Lighthouse didn't work, we traveled again on Friday to Cape Hatteras and were successful this time. This is the tallest lighthouse in North America. To go up you have to be a certain height [42 inches I think], and Sidnie didn't meet the requirement. (You also can't be carried or carry anyone up. Only those who can make it on their own are allowed up.) Aunt Kari volunteered to stay with Sidnie while the rest of made the climb of 248 spiral stairs to the top. We all made it too.
A shot of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse...
The plaque...
A view of some of the 248 steps in the spiral staircase going up...
Another shot of the stairs...
The look up to where the light shines from the lighthouse at night...
A view out from the top...
A view from the top in another direction...
Cousins: Spencer, Zack, Kammie, Jordan, Kate, [Kathie], Peter, Danny, Joel...
G-ma Vernetta made it up...
Looking down on the house where Sidnie was on the front porch with Kari. [Kari informed us that we were in the doghouse with Sidnie. She was not happy to be left behind.] We tried to wave to her, but she didn't return the gesture...
The Marshall clan on top...
A parting/last shot of the lighthouse...
A blury shot of the lighthouse from where it used to be. (They moved it inland some to protect it. Sounds like a fun project huh?)
