Last Chance Meet

There was a Last Chance before State Swim Meet on Saturday, March 3rd in Bryant. It gives the kids one last shot at getting a qualifying time for the State Meet the following weekend.) There were a couple of other kids from our ward there (that are on a different team), so it was fun to hang out with them and cheer each other on.

Kam got scratched from the 100 IM because even if she cut off a second that she needed to qualify for this event at State, she could only swim 3 individual events per day and she had already qualified for 3 in Saturday's portion of the meet.

On the blocks for the 200 IM - a new event for Kammie. [She'd done the 100 IM before, but this was the first time in the 200 distance. That's 50 yards (two lengths of the pool) for every stroke.]
Change...They got everyone down off the blocks and decided to run the girls and boys 200 IM at the same time because between the boys and girls there were only 7 swimmers for the 8 lanes.

A baby Blanket for Lyla Jean

The flannel baby blankets I was given for my children turned out to be my favorites and beginning with my first boy, his favorite as well. When I discovered Minkee fabric, I began making minkee/flannel blankee's for babies. Spencer still loves his. A friend is having her second girl in about a week, so I had to make her Lyla Jean a blanket too. I made her older sister Halle one. Her cousins Joseph, Katelyn, and Emmeline each got one as well. I picked out the flannel long before the Minkee. As it turns out the fabric store is moving locations and not getting in more fabric for now. I had to go with this remnant piece. I loved the way it turned out. She'll be all snuggly and warm.

Time for a Flea and TICK collar

On March 2nd, I came home from running errands and stuff and I saw this grey pebble like thing on my carpet. I wondered what it was. I knew it wasn't a rock. There was a spoon in my room, so I turned it over a few times with it. I picked it up with the spoon and then I realized it was a TICK. It was so full of blood that ti was HUGE. It probably came off the cat, because he was so full, before he exploded. I took the tick outside, snapped a couple of photos and then smashed him.

The tick near a dime, so you can have a better idea of it's size...
A little bit closer...
Smash! He's gone...
(I know some of you out there are wondering why we even let the cat inside, but ticks are so common here, that even if it wasn't the cat bringing one in every now and then, we get them often enough just by being outside. Even if we spray for bugs on the lawn.) But I may look into getting some sort of medicine for the cat that repels ticks. Yuck!

New Beginnings

Our Young Women's New Beginnings was held on Leap Day, February 29th. Our theme was Happily Ever After with use of Disney's Tangled along with the YW's theme of Arise and Shine Forth. We used the Primary Room since our YW's room is small.

Daffodils

After the hard freeze we had where I cut down a bunch of the daffodils to enjoy inside, more of the buds came to life. It's been fun to enjoy a second round of their bright yellow cheer.

No Fear

Amazingly enough, Sidnie wanted me to curl her hair for church the Sunday after she burnt her face on Friday afternoon. [Kammie still doesn't like to have her hair curled, because I've gotten a little too close the her skin while curling her hair. After Sid's accident with the curling iron, I thought she'd stear clear as well.] I didn't have a ton of time, so I just put a few curls here and there. But she was happy to look 'beautiful.' She's certainly a girly girl!

We did our best to hide the burn marks with the angle of her face.

O U C H !

On February 17th, our Ward had an Adult Party at the 5 Star Peabody Hotel. (Before you freak out, they asked each of us to contribute money toward's this activity and a guy in our ward work's there and got us a good deal, so we don't have some extravegant budget like you might think.) Anyway, as I was getting ready in my bathroom, Sidnie came and plopped herself down on the little rug in front of the sink. She bumped the cord to the curling iron and it came down on top of her. Besides bonking her head, it was HOT. It hit her check and rolled down her face. Her eyes got real BIG in pain as she realized how hot it was. I grabbed it as fast as I could, but some damage had already been done. She cried and cried and had some nice burns on her face. Poor Thing!

Day One (the 17th)...
You can't see it as well as in person, but there is a burn mark up on her check bone and then there are some flat blisters farther down where the curling iron finally came to rest on her check, neck and ear.

Day Two (18th)...Beginning to scab...

Day Four (20th)...
The blister began to get scraped off in her sleep or somehow and nice scabs formed.

Day Nine (25th)...
The scabs are starting to fall off.

Two weeks later (March 2nd)...
Amazing how the body/skin can heal. It's still pink in the burned areas, but it is doing nicely. :)
