RACERS State Meet

Kammie has participated all year on a year round swim team.  (I'm sure you are aware of that if you've looked at this blog at all and seen all the swimming pictures.)  Well, she had her State meet on July 28th.  She aged up right before state.  That means she swam all year in the 9 and 10 year old category, but, since she turned 11 right before the state meet, she then had to compete as an 11 year old.  As a 10 year old she would have qualified in several events.  As an 11 year old, she only qualified in one event.  The 50 meter Freestyle.  We debated about whether it was worth it or not to go participate for just one event, but in the end we went.  It was held at an outdoor pool in Fort Smith.  We took the family and stayed overnight in a hotel and were all able to cheer her on.  Go Kammie!

The Racers wanted everyone to wear suspenders.  Their motto was:  "We swim so fast we need suspenders."  Kammie didnt have any, but here is the parade of athletes...

Here she is on the blocks ready to go.  (In year round swimming they use the blocks like they do in the olympics.)

Kammie is in lane 1 closest to us.

All done!  Way to go Kammie!

This sure got us excited to watch the Olympics in London.  Go USA!
