"Hiss" the turtle

Surprise, Surprise! Kathie rescued another [box] turtle from the road and brought it home to show the kiddos. And shocker - the kids wanted to keep it. Since the garden season is almost over and is a fenced in area, we decided we could keep it out there. The kids got a bowl of water and dug a spot for the bowl down in the dirt, so it would be at ground level and our new turtle had the perfect home. And the turtle had plants he could nibble on (basil, tomatoes, peppers, etc.)

The children decided to name our new turtle Hiss, because that was the sound it makes when the turtle is hiding/closing himself up in his shell.

We had Hiss for a couple of weeks, and he loved to hid in the dirt under the basil in the garden. Then Sidnie and her friends got Hiss out to play with him and in the process, let him crawl away. I guess Hiss is probably happier to be free anyway.
