Another Win!

Jordan had an end of the year awards assembly at Maumelle Middle School on Wednesday, June 1st. (I had asked just the day before in the office if they were going to do one this year and the ladies in the office first said no and then that they didn't know. I was sad to have missed it.) As I picked her up from school she immediately told me they had had the assembly that afternoon. I asked immediately if she had won the reading award. She purposely named off the other certificates that she received and left me hanging until the end on that one.

Jordan was on the honor roll, got an award for spectacular effort in Spanish, had the highest average in Keyboarding, and was the top Pre-AP Social Studies student. And she won $100 for being the top reader in her grade this year. She read a total of 3,680,921 words this school year. (With her previous win of $50, she has learned that it pays to read.)

To give a little bit more background, we were aware of this award for reading, because they gave it last year as well. About 7 weeks ago, Mom asked the librarian (or media center specialist) if it was something they would give out this year too. She said yes. Mom then had her look up your word count. You were only around 1.5 million words at that point. Some girl in the 7th grade had 3 million something and some boy in your grade had just over 2 million words. So, we knew you were in 3rd place and could maybe work yourself into second place, but weren't sure if you could catch up with the first place girl. Jordan set out to do just that though.

For most of the books one reads, there is an Accelerated Reager (AR) quiz you can take to test your comprehension of the book. You began reading in earnest and taking more tests and taking tests for books you had forgotten to test on. In the end you were able to pass both of the other students and win first prize. We are so proud of Jordan's accomplishments. (And we aren't sure where she gets all her smarts.)

Smarty pants Jordan with all her certificates...
Jordan with the reading certificate and check...
Her check for $100.00 dollars...
