A birthday for Indiana Jones (a.k.a. Spencer)

Spencer's birthday was this past Monday. He had been waiting for so long and was very excited. We opened presents before dinner because he couldn't wait any longer. He has been enthralled with Indiana Jones lately and wanted the whole get up. He was not disappointed.

Presents!

Indy's gun.

Opening a package.

Indiana Jones is here and set to fight.

Instead of a cake, he wanted to have sugar cookies as his birthday treat. So we had a little fun with some of the shapes.

Cookies in the shape of Indiana Jones with his whip, hat, gun, sachel and a snake trying to get him.

The cookies frosted.

Big smile!

Blowing out the candles.

Out they go.

We love you Spencer!

Mulching

Also on Good Friday, James took the day off and we worked all day mulching our flower beds (planting flowers and sweet potato vines in the front) and then planting our vegetable garden after adding composte, miracle grow soil and manure to the soil. I love the Spring and the reminder of renewal and new growth that can take place and not just in nature, but in our (spiritual) lives as well.

The daffodils are on their way out.

A couple of tuplips are fighting for life.

Coloring Easter Eggs

On April 2nd we colored eggs and had a grand old time. Here are a few shots of the fun.

Sid's picture has the light from the windows in the background, so sorry it's dark.

A heroic rescue?

On Saturday, inbetween the afternoon conference session and the priesthood session, James and I worked on puting some new shelving (we got from a doctor's office that is remodeling) into our "food storage" closet off the garage. We were moving canned food and such, when Zack came around the house. He announced that a neighbor's cat, Peppy, had tried to eat a mouse. Then we noticed that Zack was holding something in his hands. It was the LIVE wild mouse! Though it was cute, we told him to put it down NOW!!! Then it scurried around the garage for a while with us hot on it's trail. Finally we caught it. James just wanted to pop it and throw it in the trash, but with all 6 kidlets right there, we also spared it's life. I let it go across the golf course in an empty field on another street. We are lucky the mouse didn't bite him. We're not sure how Zack was able to catch the mouse so easily after he made the cat let it go. But, we are grateful we didn't have a repeat visit to the ER.

Playing it up, this is a Fictitious report for the local paper...
"A Maumelle boy is recovering today from a mouse bite on the nose. He was showing what he thought was a dead mouse to his little brother when it awoke from its unconscious state and fanged out at the person imprisoning him. The boy had rescued the mouse from a local cat. The boy's treatments for rabies begin tomorrow, and it is expected he will miss two to three weeks of school during the extremely painful series of shots he will undergo. The principal of the school was assured that this act of the boy was not a further attempt to miss classes. No word from the cat." by TDO

An Easter Dress?

Although it's not Easter in colors, this is a new dress I made for Sidnie this week that will serve as her Easter dress. (Note the patriotic nature of the dress. That is because the maker is a big Americana themed fabric fan.) [Thanks again to my sweet and talented friend Amy for her help with the patern for the top part with the sleeves.]

The dress hanging from the tredmill.

Sid trying to make a run from the camera. (Note this picture was just for demonstration purposes. Disregard the lime green onsie poking out the top.)

A view from the side/back.

It was fun to make. And since it is long, she'll be able to wear it for the 4th of July too.

A trip to the ER shortly after returning from our trip!

Not long after we arrived home from our two day drive from Virginia, Zack required a trip to the ER. We unpacked the car and were giving the boys haircuts. Zack began jumping from our deck, over the bushes and onto the grass. When James saw him do it, he pointed out the green metal trim that lined between the grass and the flowerbed and told him to make sure he cleared it, or he would break his foot. Well, sure enough, a few jumps later he landed on the metal trim. But rather than break his foot, he just sliced it open.
He didn't cry afterwards, but ran to the front yard and then saw blood, so he came back. We brought him inside to clean it and check out the damage. Well, It was DEEP. He sliced nicely into his big toe from the underside. We took him to our friend who is a doctor and he could see clean into his foot and was concerned about the tendon. So, we were off to the ER. Too bad they never really took a good look at it. I hope it won't get infected and that there is not tendon damage.

The waiting room.

Being called back--FINALLY!

Some numbing drops.

Getting it clean.

Getting the shot to really numb it up. Zack went from laughing to crying in an instant.

Getting sewn up (without them ever really looking into the wound to see how bad the damage was. Just "It's a laceration. Let's stitch it up."

Four stitches!
