Beach Vacation in Kitty Hawk, NC

We drove Saturday and Sunday to get to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina and arrived past dinner time on the 26th of June. On Monday the 27th we hit the beach twice!!!!

This is a perfect reflection of what Sidnie first thought of the Beach...she's turning her nose up at it...

Swim Meet vs. Lakewood 6/24/11

(Be prepared for way too many pictures. But I took them, so you can see them...) The morning of the 24th we had our 3rd swim meet of the season. It was an away meet in Lakewood. The kids continue to improve. Zacky had a rough time in a few events, but all in all, they are doing well.

This meet started out with the kickboard event for those 6 and under. Spencer has improved each week. He went from 1:16 seconds at the Sherwood meet to 1:05 seconds and it was a 25 meter pool instead of yards, like the pool in Maumelle. Therefore, his converted time is 59 seconds.

Zack on his way--he was the anchor swimmer for the 4 person relay team and they won...

[After relay it was breaststroke and we forgot to remind Zack what event we were on. Since he had just done the freestyle relay, he jumped in and started freestyle for the breaststroke event and then switched. So, he got DQ'd. He wasn't too happy about that. He has only once gotten a time for breaststroke out of 3 or 4 times trying the event. I knew I needed to remind him, but I was all the way across the pool and I didn't want to yell. Such is life!]

Kammie and Jordan were on the same relay team this meet in the girls 12 and under group. They took 3rd place. (Another team from Maumelle was first.) We actually thought they had taken second, but relays got all messed up when and kid on Zack's team false started and so Lakewood swam in a later heat and took second by time.

J here in the water just starting her leg. She was second after Kammie led off. (My picture of Kam's swim didn't turn out.)

Spencer had a blue snowcone while he waited for the others to finish their events. He had it all over his face. Hopefully you can see all the blue around his mouth that he enjoyed...

Results:
[Note the times are higher because it was a 25 meter pool instead of yards]

Spencer 20th place on kickboard with a time of 1:05.72 (that's faster than the 1:16 at the Sherwood meet the week before and this was a longer pool)
Kammie IM 3rd silver division 1:54.38 - 1 point for the team
Zack Freestyle 3rd place gold division 22.35 - 1 point
Kammie Freestyle 4th place gold division with a silver time of 44.09
Jordan Freestyle 6th place bronze division 47.28
Zack Backstroke 1st place gold division with a bronze time of 31.82 - 5 points (He had a late start and ran into the land rope. Even though there were 6 kids faster than him at this meet, none of them were in the gold division previously, so he took 1st.[rewarding mediocrity])
Jordan Backstroke 4th bronze 56.47
Zack's relay team won 1st place - 7 points, Kam and Jordan's took 3rd
Zack got DQ'd in Breaststroke by starting out doing freestyle for a few strokes--oops
Kammie Breaststroke 3rd place bronze time of 1:10.38 - 1 point
Jordan Breaststroke 3rd place bronze time of 59.20 - 1 point
Zack Butterfly 2nd place silver with silver time of 31.34 - 3 points
Kammie Butterfly 2nd place silver with a silver time of 59.04 - 3 points

All worn out

With swim practices from 8 to 8:45 at night and then early morning practices, the kids are worn out everyday with all of their activities. On the 24th, Zack curled up on the chair in my room and fell asleep...

Sidnie's new cloak

All the kids requested that I make them cloaks, that they could use to play Harry Potter games or other such adventures. For Sidnie's birthday, I bought her some fabric and finally made her one. This picture turned out rather bright, but you get the idea...

Another box turtle

On our run on Friday the 24th of June I saw a box turtle crawling through someone's front yard. I of course, had to bring it home for the kids to see. James immediately informed me that he was NOT building another "home" for a turtle. I told him I was just bringing it home to show the kids and then we'd let it go because we were leaving on vacation the next day. I put the turtle in the front yard and went and got Spencer and Sidnie. They were thrilled. Zack was excited too, but I don't think I got any photos with him and the turtle.

Kate's Birthday dessert

There was a Young Women's/Young Men's pool party the night of Kate's birthday and they made homemade ice cream there, so we saved Kate's ice cream dessert (oreo crumbs on top and bottom with vanilla ice cream mixed with frozen lemonade concentrate inbetween) for the next night. Here she is blowing out her candles...

So much to post about

We've been on vacation to the beach in North Carolina and got back on the 3rd, just before the Independence Day holiday. I'm very behind on posting pictures and things. It may take me a while to catch up. But lots of great pictures await...
