On Saturday, inbetween the afternoon conference session and the priesthood session, James and I worked on puting some new shelving (we got from a doctor's office that is remodeling) into our "food storage" closet off the garage. We were moving canned food and such, when Zack came around the house. He announced that a neighbor's cat, Peppy, had tried to eat a mouse. Then we noticed that Zack was holding something in his hands. It was the LIVE wild mouse! Though it was cute, we told him to put it down NOW!!! Then it scurried around the garage for a while with us hot on it's trail. Finally we caught it. James just wanted to pop it and throw it in the trash, but with all 6 kidlets right there, we also spared it's life. I let it go across the golf course in an empty field on another street. We are lucky the mouse didn't bite him. We're not sure how Zack was able to catch the mouse so easily after he made the cat let it go. But, we are grateful we didn't have a repeat visit to the ER.
Playing it up, this is a Fictitious report for the local paper...
"A Maumelle boy is recovering today from a mouse bite on the nose. He was showing what he thought was a dead mouse to his little brother when it awoke from its unconscious state and fanged out at the person imprisoning him. The boy had rescued the mouse from a local cat. The boy's treatments for rabies begin tomorrow, and it is expected he will miss two to three weeks of school during the extremely painful series of shots he will undergo. The principal of the school was assured that this act of the boy was not a further attempt to miss classes. No word from the cat." by TDO
